10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Cloverfield Franchise
8. The Title Origin
The most obvious connection to all three movies is, of course, the title. In the first movie, Cloverfield serves as the name for the government case designation after the alien attack, referencing the Manhattan Project.
In the second, the bunker that the characters reside in coincides with the title 10 Cloverfield Lane and finally, The Cloverfield Paradox is named after the Cloverfield space station that causes the dimensional events to occur.
But where does the original idea for the title come from? Fans and theorists have suggested over the years that Abrams knows and is recalling classified government information of a future coming apocalypse, hiding it within the franchise's title and plot.
However, the real answer is much less mysterious. Abrams and his team have since confirmed that they got the idea for the name because of a street name their Santa Monica office.
The producer passed this street to work on a daily basis, holding its name as it used to turn off to Clover Field Airport, now retitled the Santa Monica Airport. The name Greyshot was also a suggested draft for the movies, before the team finally settled with the Cloverfield brand.
