10 Things You Somehow Missed In Zodiac (2007)
3. Who Plays The Zodiac Killer?
In one of the Zodiac killer's letters, he deliberates on who would portray him if his case was adapted into a movie. Many movie fans were also intrigued by who David Fincher would cast as the most infamous serial killer in US history.
So, who is he played by? Well, the film implies John Carroll Lynch's character, Arthur Leigh Allen, is the true Zodiac Killer (although this theory has since been discredited). Because of this, you would assume Lynch plays the Zodiac in the scenes where he performs the murders.
But this isn't the case. In fact the Zodiac is actually portrayed by three different actors - Richmond Arquette, Bob Stephenson, and John Lacy. Because the Zodiac Killer's real name is unknown, David Fincher decided to cast multiple actors in the role to highlight how he doesn't have a definitive identity. This decision was also based on the fact that the testimonials of the survivors had conflicting descriptions of the suspect. Michael Mageau described his attacker as "really beefy" with a "light brown almost blond hair" while Officer Don Fouke claimed the Zodiac was "barrel chested" and had hair that was "greying in the rear".
