What Is It?: The immensely successful video game racing series, primarily based on cops vs. robbers-type races.
And It's Weird Because...?: Um, doesn't this movie already exist? The Fast & The Furious franchise beat EA to the punch by cranking out 6 movies in their franchise between 2001 and 2013 (with a seventh due to start shooting imminently), totally nailing down the street racer demographic and then making it clear with its fifth and sixth entries that audiences much prefer the heist film format anyway. As a result, expect Need for Speed to have a pretty limited audience, and despite being an established brand long before F&F ever came around, it will likely be largely dismissed as a needless imitation. Had EA struck while the iron was hot, perhaps they would have had a multi-billion dollar movie franchise on their hands...
