The original Mad Max series is a beloved trilogy of films from Australia that not only hold a special place in the hearts of action fans the world over, it also virtually single-handedly created the modern car chase film.

When the third film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was released in 1985, it seemed unlikely that the kind of operatic chaos captured in the series would ever be duplicated anywhere, let alone in another entry of the series.

But creator George Miller never gave up the hope of making another film. For years, he brainstormed and planned, storyboarded and plotted, waiting for the opportunity to bring his masterful vision to screen.

And he did NOT disappoint. Likely to be hailed as a masterpiece of storytelling and maybe the best action film of all time, the movie was awarded ten Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Picture, a feat unheard of for the fourth film in an action franchise.
