10 Third Movie Sequels Better Than Anyone Expected

It was already unexpected that a series about a Buddy doll possessed by the spirit of a serial killer would have somehow lasted for an entire trilogy. But audiences loved Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky, and they showed up for three battles between him and young Andy.

The three films came out one a year for three years straight, and exhaustion set in. That, coupled with the awkward time jump and recasting of the lead role, put the franchise on ice for what seemed like forever.

Then, in 1998, a new darkly comical entry in the series called Bride of Chucky was released. Influenced by the self-referential humor of Scream, the series breathed new life into Chucky by giving him a loving but difficult girlfriend played by Jennifer Tilly.

The direction, from Hong Kong superstar Ronny Yu, gave the series an energy it had never seen before. Because of the shot to the heart that was Bride of Chucky, there have been three additional entries, and the series continues to this day.
