10 Thrillers You Need To Watch In 2017
2. Atomic Blonde
After well and truly stealing the show as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, a lot of people were wondering what Charlize Theron would do next. Would she lend her considerable talents and name value to smaller productions, or continue to solidify her presence as a subversive action hero? Atomic Blonde, a new spy-thriller helmed by John Wick co-director David Leitch, looks to answer that question.
Based on Antony Johnston's graphic novel The Coldest City, Atomic Blonde is set in Berlin, just as the wall as about to fall. Theron plays Lorraine Broughton, an elite MI6 agent recruited to take down a dangerous espionage ring. She stars alongside a pretty weighty cast, including the likes of Toby Jones, John Goodman, Eddie Marsan and James McAvoy, who plays the not-very-German-sounding Berlin station chief David Percival.
Atomic Blonde premieres at SXSW in March, before seeing wide release on July 28th.
