10 Thrilling Predictions For Blade In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
6. Wesley Snipes Will Be Cast As A New And Different Character
Comic book properties love to cast actors who have played superheroes of the past in brand new roles. Therefore, the MCU should embrace the opportunity to include Wesley Snipes in the new Blade film, especially when his portrayal kickstarted today’s superhero film boom.
Wesley Snipes could be cast as Jamal Afari, Blade's mentor from the comics. In the comics, Jamal Afari was a retired vampire hunter who was attacked by three vampires and aided by a nine-year Blade. After their fateful first meeting, Jamal Afari raised Blade and taught him everything he knew about slaying vampires. Tragically, Blade had to kill his own mentor in self-defense when is turned into a vampire by Dracula. This storyline is cinematic and gives Wesley Snipes a strong character arc that sees him go from loving father figure to an out-of-control vampire.
However, in order to further distance Wesley Snipes from his former role, it may be wise to cast him as a villain. Therefore, despite not physically resembling the character, Wesley Snipes should tackle the role of Blade’s vampire father Lucas Cross. In the comics, Lucas Cross implanted vampire agents within S.H.I.E.L.D to assist him with his villainous plots.
The MCU should adapt this concept by introducing Lucas Cross as a S.H.I.E.L.D agent who specializes in supernatural matters and recruits his son to help with a case. Throughout the course of a film, Blade could discover his true parentage and become disillusioned when he discovers his father’s ulterior motives.
