10 (At The Time) Unknown Actors Who Were In The Star Wars Prequels

4. Joel Edgerton (Owen Lars)

Following in the footsteps of American actor Phil Brown; the talented Australian actor Joel Edgerton was given the role of the Tatooine moisture farmer Owen Lars in "Attack of the Clones". Looking like he really could be a younger version of his later counterpart, Edgerton does his best with what little material he is given in his few scenes in "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith". Uncle Owen isn't supposed to be the most exciting character. Indeed, one of his functions in the original "Star Wars" was to make audiences sympathize with his nephew Luke Skywalker's desire to leave the desert planet. If you consider this fact, it's a testament to Edgerton's acting abilites that he delivers his five (or so) lines with ten times more authenticity than Hayden Christensen did in the starring role of Anakin Skywalker. With strong performances in films like "Warrior", "Zero Dark Thirty", "The Great Gatsby" (and even in the otherwise forgettable "The Thing"-prequel), Edgerton has truly become one of the most interesting and sought after actors of his age.
