10 Times 90s Cinema Tried To Reboot 60s Television (And Failed)

7. Wild Wild West (1999)

Lost In Space
Warner Bros.

Wicky Wa, Wicky Wa, Wickidy Wa Wild Wild West was another attempted franchise for Will Smith to star in and sing the theme tune for, based on the TV show of the same name (minus the wickidy was).

Featuring a giant robot spider, which, according to Kevin Smith during his now-legendary tale from An Evening With Kevin Smith, may have been part of producer John Peters' original vision for the unmade Tim Burton/Nic Cage Superman Lives. WWW feels like a mish-mash of things that the producers thought children and teenagers would find cool. Cowboys? Check. Steampunk Spiders? Check. Salma Hayek’s bare butt seen through some old-timey underclothes view hole? Check.

Whereas Tom Cruise reportedly dropped out of the role of West, Jim West, desperado (rough rider, no you don’t want nada) to do Mission: Impossible, Will Smith reportedly dropped the part of Neo in The Matrix to take part in this monstrosity, a decision he no doubts regrets.

Ah well. At least the soundtrack contained some absolute tunes. Wicky Wa.
