10 Times 90s Cinema Tried To Reboot 60s Television (And Failed)

8. The Avengers (1998)

Lost In Space
Warner Bros.

Not to be confused with the super gals and guys of the MCU, The Avengers was a popular British show from '60s starring the late, great Diana Rigg as Emma Peel, a stylish ass-kicking agent who beat people up with her martial art skills, and the late, great Patrick MacNee, a stylish, ass-kicking agent who beat people up with his umbrella.

Sadly, the style and cool British reserve which made the show popular both at home and overseas was replaced by loud obnoxious CGI and a silly plot where Sean Connery wants to take over the world using his crazy weather manipulation machine.

Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman played Steed and Peel respectively. MacNee made a kind of cameo as the invisible Colonel Jones, whereas Dame Diana had enough common sense to turn down the chance to appear in this stinker.
