3. Dustin Hoffman And Sydney Pollack - Tootsie

Despite being an icon of 20th century cinema in Hollywood, Dustin Hoffman has proven to be a difficult presence on set to the point where several directors and actors have no intention of working with him ever again.

This was certainly the case on his awards darling and seminal rom-com Tootsie (which in hindsight the protagonist's difficult nature on-set was eerily similar to Hoffman’s real-life persona). Director Sydney Pollack expressed his displeasure with Hoffman’s difficult behaviour, specifically the latter’s constant ignoring of his direction in various scenes.

In addition to this, the two could not agree on the tone several scenes would take in the film. For starters, the scene where Tootsie hits a man with her bag while getting into a taxi was meant to be a more serious affair highlighting the frequency of women's victimization. Hoffman however, chose to play it in a comedic manner and this is what ended up in the final cut.

The director and actor also had intense arguments on Mondays as they spent the weekend working on the script and adding their vastly contrasting touches to the story.
