10 Times Actors Had ZERO Idea What Movie They Were Making
1. David Prowse – Star Wars
After playing a string of minor roles and mute characters for a decade, David Prowse received the opportunity of a lifetime when he was cast as Darth Vader in Star Wars. Although his face wouldn't be seen, the Bristol-born weightlifter was happy to be playing a prominent role in a blockbuster. So, when George Lucas' sci-fi epic became the biggest film ever and reshaped the movie industry, Prowse should've been over the moon.
But when he got the chance to watch the movie, he was dismayed to learn his voice had been dubbed over by James Earl Jones, without his permission or knowledge. Because of Prowse's thick British accent, Lucas always intended to replace him with... someone who didn't sound like this.
When you look back on the whole situation, you can't help feeling bad for David Prowse. While filming the original Star Wars, he thought he was the antagonist, unaware he was nothing more than a faceless stuntman. Ironically, James Earl Jones has become more synonymous with Darth Vader, despite the fact he wasn't credited for the role in the first two instalments.
