When it comes to live-action adaptations, the Fantastic Four have had it pretty rough. Every film based on Marvel's First Family was poorly received and underperformed at the box-office. However, nobody had it worse than the cast of the 1994 movie, simply called The Fantastic Four.

After the producer, Bernd Eichinger, obtained the rights for the characters in 1987, he intended to bring the comic book characters to the big screen. Unfortunately, Eichinger had trouble securing a studio to greenlight the feature. Worst still, Eichinger knew the rights for the Fantastic Four would expire in December 1992.

Desperate to maintain control over the iconic superheroes, Eichinger joined forces with B-movie extraordinaire Roger Corman and put together a super-cheap adaptation of the Fantastic Four.

But to the surprise of many, all plans to release the finished film were scrapped at the last minute. Although there are a lot of conflicting stories, many believe The Fantastic Four was never intended to be released, and was solely created so Eichinger could keep the rights for the characters.

Even though Eichinger denies these claims, it's still unfair for the cast and crew, since they were under the impression The Fantastic Four would receive a worldwide release. Instead, the project was quashed so absolutely, many people are unaware of its existence.
