As crazy as it is to hear Danny Lloyd wasn't aware The Shining was a horror feature, you can understand it. Because he was a child and was kept in the dark about the movie's unsettling content, he couldn't have known any better.

However, Piper Laurie was in her 40s when she filmed Carrie, and yet, was absolutely certain the Stephen King adaptation was a black comedy! Considering her character, Margaret White, is a deranged zealot who tries to murder her daughter, it's baffling to belief anyone in the role could draw this conclusion.

But as Laurie discusses in the DVD commentary of Carrie, she found Margaret's fanaticism so over-the-top, she assumed she was taking part in a satire. While filming, Laurie burst into fits of laughter, purely because she couldn't take the character seriously. At one point, director Brian De Palma took the actress to one side to remind her she was meant to be scary.

However, Laurie's interpretation of the character worked in the film's favour, since she plays Carrie's mother as someone who can't recognise how evil and deluded she is. Because Laurie plays Margaret in an otherworldly manner, her mania come across as more believable, entertaining, and terrifying.
