10 Times Actors Thought They Were Fired For Sure

It's pretty much common knowledge at this point that Hugh Jackman's performance as Logan/Wolverine in 2000's X-Men was the result of a last-minute casting change.

What you may not know, however, is just how close the star came to having his particular Weapon X experiment scrapped upon finally joining the production. After flexing his mutant muscles early on, Jackman later revealed he was told that "things weren’t really working out as they hoped" and he admitted, "I was about to get fired from my first Hollywood movie—the biggest of my career."

One bout of "Olympic level whining" to his wife later, though, Jackman was reminded to trust his instincts and forget about what other people thought of him. The star did just that and, after appearing in a whopping nine X-Men features, went on to become arguably the most important piece of Fox's mutant universe.
