10 Times Actors Went Too Far (And Improved Movie Scenes)

3. Benicio Del Toro - The Usual Suspects

A Clockwork Orange

This results of this great scene were borne from Benicio del Toro's childish nature.

We all remember the first time we saw The Usual Suspects: the shifting narrative was exciting, the final twist truly shocking, and the characters wholly unforgettable. One of the film's best scenes sees the core characters in a line-up, being told to say the only line in Christopher McQuarrie's script for the scene.

That's right - the best scene in the film had only one line of dialogue written for it. It was up to the actors to say said line however they felt their character would. It's all pretty serious stuff until del Toro steps up, though. Del Toro says the line too fast and completely incoherently, and McQuarrie - playing the cop talking to the suspects - responds with the wonderfully unscripted: "In English, please?", promoting laughs from the cast.

Del Toro's initial response to the cop's snarky comment was also improvised and wisely left in, but it was later revealed that the reason they couldn't stop laughing for the remainder of the scene was because del Toro couldn't stop farting.

That's one way to create greatness.
