10 Times Alfred Pennyworth Utterly DESTROYED Batman

6. Harley Quinn: Batman's Back, Man - Alfred Spends Most Of The Episode Treating Bruce Like A Child

The animated Harley Quinn series is a wonder - funny, touching, thoughtful, and very, very adult.

The beginning of the Season Two storyline included the tale of Bruce Wayne being recovered from the rubble of a building blown up by the Joker. After weeks in a coma, Bruce wakes up in Wayne Manor, with Alfred cheerfully keeping up the illusion that all is well, only for Bruce to find out that Gotham is now a hellscape ruled by different members of his rogues gallery.

Bruce immediately wants to resume protecting Gotham, which Alfred shuts down by reminding Bruce that at this point he can't even put his "sockie poos" on his "feetsies". Undeterred, Bruce has Lucius Fox design him an Iron Man-like suit with an AI named Veronica. On its first use, Bruce gets pummelled by Bane, who breaks both his legs and destroys the armour.

Throughout the episode, Alfred attempts to show a whiny Bruce over and over that he is simply not capable of fighting, armour or not, and at one point tells him ", Your ego is writing checks your broken body cannot cash". Bruce, who wants none of this, ignores Alfred's advice, ends up even more injured, and has to be rescued by Alfred and Batgirl.

The shame of it all...
