10 Times Alfred Pennyworth Utterly DESTROYED Batman

5. Batman V Superman - Alfred Laments The Lack Of Baby Waynes

Alfred has often lamented Bruce's lack of relationships beyond the Bat-Family and his Justice League allies. In both comics and movies, Alfred has repeatedly reminded Bruce that there are bigger things in the world than justice, vengeance and the costume.

Bruce, for his part, seems unable to ever really grasp what a relationship means. Despite flings with dozens of women, including other heroes, the closest he ever got to true happiness was ALMOST marrying Selena Kyle. He does have Damian, his son, but that offspring was the result of a sexual encounter that only happened because Bruce was drugged by Talia al Ghul.

Moving on...

Jeremy Irons plays an excellent Alfred in the DCEU; one who willingly helps Bruce in his war on crime but never fails to remind Bruce that there's more to life than Batman.

In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - although the dialogue is originally from The Dark Knight Returns - Alfred picks up an empty wine bottle and tells Bruce that he hopes the "next generation" of Waynes won't inherit an empty wine cellar, before deliberately muttering "not that there's likely to be a next generation".

In one line, he not only makes it clear that he feels Bruce is wallowing in selfpity and alcohol, he also reminds him that he is not getting any younger and that everything he has built may end up going to no one.

Ouch.
