Of the thousands of actors whose careers spanned decades in Hollywood, few are as beloved as Tom Hanks. He got his start in comedies like the show Bosom Buddies and films like Bachelor Party, but as he matured as an actor, his roles did as well.

Moving from comedy into drama can be risky, but there are some actors who have succeeded in a genre swap. Granted, Hanks never lost his sense of humor, but his later work in the '90s and into the 21st century speaks volumes towards his growth as an actor.

Hanks' biggest streak (He's had more than one) began with the 1998 film Saving Private Ryan. It was followed by Toy Story 2, Cast Away, Road to Perdition, and Catch Me if You Can.

Hanks' streak was only broken with the release of The Terminal in 2004, but even that film scores well on sites like RottenTomatoes, which has it at 60%.

If you go back through his entire career, it could be argued that Hanks' string of successes began in 1988 with Big and continued through 2002, but he didn't stop there.

Following The Terminal, Hanks starred in The Da Vinci Code, Toy Story 3, Captain Philips, and many more movies considered hits... they just failed to release one after the other.
