10 Times An Actor Went On An Insane Streak Of Great Movies

7. John Cazale, 1972-1978

The Streak: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter. If John Cazale's streak seems impressive, it will seem doubly so once you realise that that's his entire cinematic filmography, from beginning to end (he sadly died of cancer in 1978) - marking him out as the only actor in history to have an oeuvre comprised solely of masterpieces. Best known for his performances as Fredo Corleone in The Godfathers Part I and II, Cazale complemented that role by starring in the film Francis Ford Coppola made in-between, The Conversation. (Just take a minute to comprehend the fact that Coppola made those three films in a row, then added another masterpiece in Apocalypse Now. Surely that's the greatest run of films by any filmmaker ever?). Add to that a frantic performance next to Al Pacino in Sidney Lumet's classic Dog Day Afternoon, and a touching one in Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter, and you get the whole picture of a short but brilliant career.
