10 Times Comic Book Movies Made Us Cry
6. Phantasm's Departure - Batman Mask Of The Phantasm
Out of all the superheroes onscreen, Batman has got to be the most tragic figure to ever come from comic books. While it might seem silly to see one of the world's greatest fighters take on crime in a Bat-suit, the tragedy of his parents being killed before his eyes is something that has driven him to strike terror into the hearts of criminals. Most people can accept the Waynes' murder, but what hurts even more is when there was potential for Bruce to be happy.
While Mask of the Phantasm had a lukewarm reception out of the gate, it has quickly become one of the most celebrated Batman iterations in history, delving into the origins of Bruce Wayne donning the cape and cowl for the first time. However, things take a turn when the titular Phantasm is revealed to be Andrea, an old flame that won his heart before he became a superhero.
As both of them decide to take on the Joker, Andrea lets her vengeance on the Clown Prince of Crime get the better of her, choosing instead to fade from Bruce's life rather than stay in Gotham. While we are told that she is alive by the end of the film, the thought of what could have been will continue to haunt the Caped Crusader for the rest of his days.
