5. Black Widow's Sacrifice - Avengers: Endgame
By the time the MCU reached Avengers: Endgame, fans knew they would be in for a rough ride. With a series amassing over 20 different films, the redemptive arc for the original Avengers against Thanos felt like the ideal way to wrap up the original squad we got to know back in the early 2010's. However, that didn't mean that the death toll wasn't going to hurt any less.
As the team of surviving Avengers go back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones, Hawkeye and Black Widow are faced with going to Vormir, where both of them have to decide who is going to make the ultimate sacrifice for the fate of half the universe. While Hawkeye is adamant that he should jump considering his checkered past, both agents engage in an odd game of death cat and mouse before both of them fall over the mountain.
With Hawkeye clinging to his friend by a thread, Black Widow assures him that everything will be alright before leaping off the mountain, leaving him to watch asshe lies lifeless on the ground below. We may never have got to know the real family Black Widow had, but as this era of the MCU came to a close, her final moments showed her giving everything to protect her adoptive family.
