10 Times Doctor Who Appeared In Movies

7. The Theory Of Everything

The late Stephen Hawking was a big Doctor Who fan, and was even interviewed as part of Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor, the 2013 show that introduced Peter Capaldi as Matt Smith's successor.

Fittingly then, 2014 biopic The Theory Of Everything - which chronicles Hawking's incredible life - includes a couple of Doctor Who nods.

The first of these occurs immediately after the scene when Stephen's theory is approved. Celebrating with his friends, Stephen is toasted as an "esteemed and formidable doctor...", only for someone to interject with the quip "who?"

Then, when Stephen's condition worsens later in the film, there's a scene where he rolls around in his wheelchair with a paper bag on his head, using his voice synthesiser to repeat "EXTERMINATE", as his nurse, Elaine, looks on and laughs.

Even a brilliant mind like Hawking's couldn't resist Dalekmania!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
