10 Times Your Favourite Directors Totally Let You Down

2. The Adventures Of Sharkboy & Lavagirl In 3D - Robert Rodriguez

Sharkboy LavagirlDimension FilmsRobert Rodriguez presumably alienated his entire fanbase when he decided to create an entire Hollywood movie out of a couple of characters that his six-year-old child scrawled on a piece of paper one day - and no, that's not a joke; it really happened. Hearing that a motion picture called "The Adventures of Sharkboy & Lavagirl In 3D" is in production is a terrifying concept in its own right, but learning that Robert Rodriguez - the man behind Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn and Desperado - was at the helm is another thing entirely. WHAT WAS HE THINKING? The results, then, as you can imagine, were downright terrible - the sort of movie watching experience that is only improved by ingesting a bowl of hallucinogens beforehand, and then dying before the movie actually starts. So should we really feel let down by the fact that Rodriguez made a movie for his kids, then? Probably not, and yet... there's something about the idea that this is stuck to his filmography forever that is increasingly annoying, because at least those Spy Kids movies had a sense of self-awareness. We doubt that his kids even liked this.
