5. Frigga Fights Malekith (Thor: The Dark World)
Marvel StudiosWhen the effects of the cosmic event known as the Convergence transport astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster to another world, she is exposed to the powerful Aether and is promptly infected by it. Upon her return to Earth, she is confronted by her long lost lover Thor, who takes her to Asgard after she unwittingly unleashes a powerful force as a result of her infection. Awakened by the event, the Dark Elf villain Malekith turned his henchman Algrim into a "Kursed One" and attacked Asgard. During the large scale battle, Malekith and Algrim search for Jane, sensing that she is the one housing the Aether - the item they desire possession of. Jane is hidden away from the fight alongside Thor's mother, Frigga (played by Rene Russo). Frigga had previously seen no action in the Thor movies, so it was something of a surprise when, upon being confronted by Malekith, she brandished a sword and fought him quite willingly. Indeed, Frigga was besting the lead villain of the movie with an emphatic display of combat prowess until the Kursed Algrim arrived and overpowered her - killing her, in fact - which is nothing to be ashamed about, given that he was quite comfortably out-powering Thor later in the movie.
