10 Times “Good” Characters Gave Being Evil A Try

You know you're not dealing with the best character in the world when a fan vote results in their brutal torture and death at the hands of the Joker. That's exactly what happened to Jason Todd, Batman's second Robin, when DC decided to ask its readers via a telephone poll if the Boy Wonder should survive the Batman: A Death In the Family storyline. He lost by 72 votes.

In the story, the Joker captures Robin and brutally murdered him, which is not something that Batman took well—the death shapes Batman's character and actions for years.

Like most comic book characters, Todd refused to die and after an impressive 17-year span in the coffin, he was resurrected thanks to some time-rippling events. Todd takes a quick dip in the Lazarus Pit and regains his memories, but he loses his mind and blames the Dark Knight for his premature demise, which sets him on a path of evil to get revenge against his former guardian.

Todd picks up the Red Hood moniker and becomes a lethal assassin—completely abandoning Batman's "no killing" policy. This lands him on the Bat's bad side and he becomes a villian, but eventually crosses back over into anti-hero territory.
