10 Times James Bond Movie Franchise Went Too Far

8. Bond Adjusting His Tie... Underwater - The World Is Not Enough

One of the reasons why James Bond has become the most iconic spy character in cinema is how effortlessly cool he is, even in a life-or-death situation.

However, most of the silliest moments in Bond is when the lead character tries too hard to look cool. In the beginning of The World Is Not Enough, Bond pursues a hitwoman after she kills an oil tycoon. As the assassin flees on a boat through the Thames, Bond gives chase in a submergible boat.

After the murderer drives through a bridge just before it closes, it looks like Bond has no way to pursue her. But by driving his vehicle downward, Bond is able to go under the bridge and come out on the other side. Even though this is a neat idea, it's ruined by the shot of Bond adjusting his tie while submerged. Now, Bond has a habit of adjusting his suit, tie, or cufflinks in the midst of danger so this moment seems in character at first.

But it doesn't make any sense! How can you adjust your tie while submerged in a river? It's so non-sensical, he might as well have tried to comb his hair while underwater!
