10 Times James Bond Movie Franchise Went Too Far

4. Ungracefully Killing Off Blofeld - For Your Eyes Only

The studio over Bond, EON Productions, were worried when Warner Bros announced they were making their own Bond film, Never Say Never Again. Because this movie had Sean Connery reprising 007 and fan-favourite, Blofeld, would serve as the antagonist, EON Productions were afraid Warner Bros might eclipse the official Bond series.

Out of pure pettiness, the studio decided to kill off SPECTRE's Supreme Commander in the opening scene of the 1981 film, For Your Eyes Only. After viewers witnessed Blofeld's demise, they naturally assumed that was the end of Bond's arch-nemesis.

You could forgive For Your Eyes Only a little if the overarching villain of the entire franchise died a noble death. Instead, Blofeld perishes after Bond has him thrown down a chimney! The fact that this scene has nothing to do with the plot nor is it mentioned again makes it all the more ludicrous.

Fortunately, EON Productions had nothing to worry about since Never Say Never Again tanked at the box office when it was released two years later.

The intro of For Your Eyes Only is not the worst moment in the Bond franchise, but it is certainly the pettiest.
