10 Times James Bond Should Have Been Killed
2. Goldfinger
This is a very worthy entry on the list, but it doesn't stop it being one of cinema's classic moments. In this timeless 007 classic, Bond encounters the magnificently eccentric villain, Auric Goldfinger, a man who kills women by painting them in gold paint. In the film's most iconic scene, Goldfinger decides to kill Agent 007 by golden death ray!
While this set up is wonderful and Goldfinger deserves kudos for his originality, the reason why Bond is saved is just lame. Begging for his life in an unnecessarily crowded room for an execution, Bond mentions one phrase, "Operation Grandslam". This proves to be enough information for Goldfinger and his cronies to freak out and grant 007 a stay of execution.
It's all extremely illogical, especially as a simple question for Mister Bond asking what he actually knows would have been enough to placate the doubts he may actually know something. Also, if he does know important information, isn't this more of a reason for him to be killed?
The film tries to justify the decision for allowing Bond to live with claims that keeping him alive has kept the CIA from investigating more closely. This gives the viewer a fair indication that the writers knew how big a jump in logic the decision to keep 007 alive was.
