The original Bond adventure from 1962 kicked off the single greatest film franchise, establishing the central characteristics of a 007 flick we still enjoy today. From the suave womaniser hero, to the stereotypical villain and endless supply of henchmen and pulsating chase scenes, Dr No was the film that got the ball rolling. One trait of Bond films that also started here was the nonsensical reasons to keep the British spy alive.

The villain with the metal hands isn't seen until the final act, where he introduces himself to Bond in an effort to convince him to join the terrorist group SPECTRE. While perhaps quite naive, this seems to be a fairly reasonable objective from Doctor No. Unfortunately for the bad doctor, Bond not only rejects his offer but threatens him right back.

Despite his offer being rejected, the central villain orders Bond be taken back to his cell, because he "hasn't finished with him yet." Why not? The decision is extremely puzzling, especially as Dr No clearly realises what a talent Bond is, so much so that he has offered him employment.

Bond easily escapes, not just thwarting the Doctor's plans but killing him too. Of all the villains deaths at the hands of Agent 007, this one was the most deserved on the basis of sheer stupidity.
