10 Times Less Was Definitely More In Movies

9. 10 Cloverfield Lane - The Real Monsters

The second entry in the Cloverfield franchise broke the mould for horror sequels by going in the complete opposite direction to its predecessor.

While the first movie was a found footage creature feature about a giant monster attacking New York City, the second is a tense psychological thriller set in an underground bunker and with only three main characters.

All we have to go on for most of the movie is Howard’s, the bunker’s owner, assertion that there is some sort of attack going on outside and that the air has been poisoned. But as he becomes more unhinged and violent throughout the movie, the two others trapped in the bunker with him, Michelle and Emmett, start to realise that maybe it’s not just the monsters outside they need to worry about.

While Michelle does eventually have an up close and personal encounter with an alien spacecraft after escaping from Howard’s psychopathic clutches, no extra-terrestrial invasion can ever be as frightening as seeing what human beings are truly capable of in their darkest moments.
