10 Times Marvel Movies Made Powerful Characters Look Like Total Fools

1. Odin Is An Opossum (And Possibly Dies Off Screen)

The idea of Odinsleep in the comics is fine and it amps up the dramatic tension that wouldn't normally be associated with a race of near immortal demi-God aliens. The concept of their leader having to recharge once a year (or when his powers run out) is an interesting one in that respect, but it's not adapted particularly smartly in the movies.

In Kenneth Branagh's original, Odin is reimagined as apparently just boasting the power of a grumpy old man who goes for an extended nap whenever something terrible threatens to happen. His Odinsleep doesn't just come on when he's used up his power reserves, but rather seems to affect him like a hysterical fainting wimp. He literally has to be carted off to bed to get over his bouts.

And if that isn't enough, in the sequel Odin - supposedly the most powerful figure in Asgard - simply up and disappears to allow his adoptive son to impersonate him. Are we supposed to just accept he's quietly shuffled off his mortal coil? He's basically God and he didn't even get a spectacular Shakespearean murder on screen. That's just not on.
