10 Times Marvel Movies Made Powerful Characters Look Like Total Fools

9. Jane Foster, Love Interest

Jane Foster & Thor
Marvel Studios

No matter how you feel about Natalie Portman's performance as Jane Foster in the Thor franchise, there's no denying the fact that she was given terrible material to work with.

It's fair enough to suggest that she was introduced in the comics as a supporting character to Thor, but she has been a strong character in her own respect. Even early on she was temporarily granted immortality and the power of the Gods, and she has of course gone on to wield Mjolnir as Thor herself.

More importantly, even in the MCU, Foster is a legitimate genius: she's within the top 1% of intellects on the planet and has been key in at least three major world-saving events. And yet, when the time came for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, she (and Pepper Potts for that matter) was relegated to a punch-line in a dick-swinging contest between two male heroes.

She might as well be furniture, and it's a shame to think Portman might leave the MCU before her character is shown in any real progressive light.
