10 Times Marvel Movies Made Powerful Characters Look Like Total Fools

8. Vision The Emo & Rhodey RIP (Basically) - Captain America: Civil War

Tony and Rhodey

This is a two for one offer thanks to the excellent but not entirely unflawed Captain America: Civil War.

After being established as basically robo-Jesus in Age Of Ultron, Vision enters Civil War seeking humanity and a new level of awareness, which he attempts to achieve by cooking with paprika, wearing snazzy clothes and flirting tragically with Scarlet Witch. He also forgets his reaosn d'etre (to protect the world, basically) and manages to misuse his near-omniscient powers to ACCIDENTALLY shoot War Machine out of the sky.

Incidentally, Rhodey himself is basically the Wil E Coyote of the film: he's reduced from being a combat veteran inside a literal War Machine to glorified cannon fodder who gets his ass handed to him at multiple turns. Even his new sword-like weapon lasts literally minutes before it's smashed in half comically.

And while his near-death experience is necessary to feed Iron Man's vengeance, it's done for cheap effect considering his tragedy is quickly overtaken by the revelation of what really happened to his parents. So even as a narrative device he's basically pointless.
