10 Times Movie Sequels Abandoned Major Storylines

2. Rose And Finn’s Relationship – Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

To say Star Wars: The Last Jedi received a mixed reaction may be the understatement of the millennium. The Force Awakens may have turned out better than anyone expected, but there were plenty of elements in the follow-up that rubbed viewers the wrong way.

Holdo's plan didn't make sense. Luke Skywalker's character shift was reviled by many. The juvenile humour jarred with the otherwise serious tone. Princess Leia pulled a Mary Poppins... we could go on.

On top of all that, a lot of people had a problem with the Finn/Rose romance. Even though their blossoming relationship took up a sizeable chunk of the run-time, the masses didn't find the pair's dynamic particularly engaging. In fact, it felt like this subplot was tacked on just to give Finn something to do.

Although it's likely this story arc would've had a proper payoff in Episode IX's original script, that went out the window when JJ Abrams took over the project. Despite being a major player in The Last Jedi, Rose only appears in The Rise of Skywalker for 76 seconds, and has next to no interactions with Finn to boot. What a waste of a talented actress.
