10 Times Movie Sequels Screwed Over Strong Female Characters
1. Arwen - Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers
Arwin is one of the most underrated characters in Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring.
First, she sneaks up on Aragorn making him look like a total sap, takes the dying Frodo on horseback whilst being chased by the Nazgul and subsequently wipes them out with an Elvish incantation making her able to bend friggin' water!
Considering she is the first female character to be introduced on screen (apart from Galadriel for like half a second and various female hobbits) there's a lot riding on her to break through and stand out amongst a star studded male dominated cast.
Her character is also deeply complicated and played stunningly by Liv Tyler as she is battling internally with her forbidden love for Aragorn despite the fact that he is a mortal man and she an unaging elf.
Unfortunately, this is where Arwin's character reaches her peak as her role is reduced from badass she-elf to broken-hearted Daddy's girl. The majority of her dialogue in The Two Towers is her talking about her love for Aragorn to her father Elrond from the comfort of Rivendell and she doesn't get another sniff of the battlefield. Such a shame.
