10 Times Movie Sequels Screwed Over Strong Female Characters

2. Rose - Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker

Although Hermione gets a significant cut in screen time from one film to another, it is nothing compared to what Rose was put through in Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker.

In The Last Jedi, Finn meets Rose, a support crew worker in charge of guarding the escape pods. Rose (played brilliantly by Kelly Marie Tran) goes with Finn to Canto Bight to find a hacker who could shut down the First Order's tracking devices.

Her character shows impressive resilience and is the film's personification of hope as she remains a positive light to The Resistance despite having lost her sister, being betrayed by the hacker, DJ, and captured by The First Order.

In her most memorable scene, she selflessly risks her own safety by ramming her speeder into Finn who was seconds away from sacrificing himself in order to stop a First Order attack.

Despite her importance and prominent role in The Last Jedi, Rose's screen time was reduced to a mere 76 seconds in this 140 minute film.

When asked about it, J.J Abrams stated that due to Carrie Fisher's tragic death, the story was altered in order to give her more screen time at the expense of other key characters.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
