10 Times Movies Changed Real Life For Being Too Unbelievable

4. Amon Göth's Evil Is Toned Down - Schindler's List

Few who've seen Schindler's List will ever accuse director Steven Spielberg of pulling his punches, especially with its depiction of horrific SS officer Amon Göth (Ralph Fiennes).

As terrifying a "villain" as Göth is, not even Spielberg's searing Holocaust drama quite puts full paid to the man's grim truth.

Spielberg excluded some of Göth's more extreme acts from the film simply because he felt that audiences wouldn't accept that any human being had such a sheer capacity for evil.

Some of these removed actions include feeding prisoners to dogs, using a torture cellar underneath his house, and even being relieved of his position as Commandant of the Kraków-Płaszów concentration camp due to excessive maltreatment of prisoners.

Once more for the cheap seats - the guy effectively got fired from overseeing a concentration camp for being too cruel. Yup.

Curiously, some critics felt that Göth's depiction in the film was "too cartoonish", no matter that it was actually considerably toned down compared to reality. Yikes.
