10 Times Movies Got Too Real

3. James Cromwell Became A Vegan Because Of His Animal Co-Stars - Babe

The wonderful James Cromwell's life was forever changed after sharing a few scenes with a number of cute critters.

Before working alongside everything from pigs to ducks on 1995's Babe, the star had already been a vegetarian since 1974. However, as he told TakePart, the bond that he eventually forged with those animals on set led him to hugely care about their welfare (via The Vintage News).

So, when it came time for lunch whilst playing Farmer Arthur Hoggett in the flick, the sight of all that meat in front of him became too real and ultimately forced Cromwell to "go the whole hog, so to speak." And he did exactly that, opting to go vegan from that point onwards before deciding to work with PETA once the film had wrapped.

Fast forward to earlier this year, and Cromwell is still looking out for adorable piglets, helping to save a baby pig who fell off a slaughter truck in April before naming the little survivor "Babe", of course (via People).

That'll do, Cromwell.
