Paul Newman and George Roy Hill had a, shall we say, interesting relationship during their many projects together. Newman would frequently alter scripts and be a back seat director on the majority of his films which rubbed some movie directors up the wrong way. One director in particular who wouldn't stand for his antics was George Roy Hill, who wasn't afraid to shut down Newman's ideas and remind him who was in charge.

The first time that Newman decided to take revenge on Hill was during the filming of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Newman personally sawed the directors desk in half, making it collapse when Hill sat down to adjust the script.

Years later, during the filming of Slap Stick, Hill again refused to play ball with Newman. So, in an act of revenge, Newman faked his own death by staging a car crash with a dummy in the front seat of the car. But the worst prank Newman pulled on Hill was when they were filming the movie The Sting. Newman revisited the old sawing-in-half-playbook but, instead of a desk, Newman took his classic prank and took it way too far by sawing Hill's own car in half.
