10 Times Prosthetics Nearly Broke An Actor
2. Jennifer Lawrence - X-Men Series
When Jennifer Lawrence first began playing the blue mutant known as Mystique/Raven, she admittedly didn't care that much about the fumes and toxins coming off the prosthetics and body paint used to create the character. However, by the time Dark Phoenix hit screens in 2019, it was clear the star was very much over the tedious makeup process.
Despite cutting her time in the chair down from eight hours to three, Lawrence confessed she 'put her foot down as much as (she) could' during the making of X-Men: Apocalypse to stop her character having to be blue as often as she was in the previous flicks.
It looked like J-Law's makeup nightmare had finally come to an end when her contract expired after that film, but she was eventually convinced to return for the lacklustre X-finale that was Dark Phoenix. Yet, it was clear to anyone who watched this box-office flop that Lawrence's makeup was somewhat toned down from the versions we'd seen in her other three Mystique outings.
With Raven's story coming to a grizzly end at the hands of Jean Grey last year, at least it now looks like Lawrence's shape-shifting days are firmly in the past and you can all but guarantee she won't be taking on any other prosthetic heavy characters in the near future.
