10 Times Requiem For A Dream Scared The Hell Out Of You

5. The Fridge Comes Alive

Oh lord. Sara's amphetamine-induced hallucinations come to a peak in the scene where the fridge starts jumping around after she imagines herself to be on the television show. The fridge plays a surprisingly big part in this film, considering it's an inanimate object, and while the drugs are the problem for all the characters, the fridge is the monster for Sara. The noise it makes as it jumps towards her, and the menacing nature of something that should not be threatening in the slightest are made to be incredibly scary in this scene. The whole hallucination scene is the nearest to a traditional scary film climax as we might expect in Requiem; the intensity of the television audience, the constantly strange sound affects, and the sheer panic of Sara make this one of the scariest bits of the film. It's reason to never try a diet pill, EVER. It's Scary Because: a fridge has never been portrayed in such a manner before. Your own fridge will never have the same sense of harmlessness again.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
