To all the fathers out there, I need to ask you something. What do you say to a guy who has the proportionate strength and speed of a spider, throws himself into danger against super powered anthropomorphic lizards and looks like hes in his late twenties, despite still being in high school? You tell him to stay the f*ck away from your daughter. But what if you like this man-child? What if he was actually a decent person with a giant heart, capable of extreme acts of selflessness and obviously cared for your daughter, even willing to put his life on the line to save her? You tell him to stay the f*ck away from your daughter while on your deathbed, because at least that way you hope that he wont break the promise and put her life in peril just by being associated with him. At the end of The Amazing Spider-Man, Captain Stacy, mortally wounded from assisting Spidey in clashing with The Lizard, tells Peter that he will make more enemies and will always be in danger, which will put Gwen in turmoil by proxy. It is a heartfelt scene between two people who respect one another greatly and anyone that is familiar with the comics knows that Peter staying as far away from Gwen as possible is an absolute necessity. Fortunately, Peter keeps the promise. For what appears to be a few weeks. Because a teenage libido is something that cannot be ignored, no matter how many deathbed promises you make. Gwen dies in the next movie, in case you were wondering.
