10 Times Star Wars Broke Its Own Rules
7. Why Doesn't Han Solo Speak Wookiee All The Time?
Those who grew up on the Original Trilogy quickly accepted the fact that Han Solo completely understood absolutely everything his big furry best pal Chewbacca said to him, despite the fact that he only communicated in what appeared to be grunts and growls.
Yet, with that being said, we still never witnessed the captain of the Millennium Falcon ever utter a few phrases of Wookiee back to his long-time bud in those first three cinematic entries or even in The Force Awakens. So, it was safe to assume that, while Han understood Wookiee, he couldn't actually converse with the big lad in his own language.
That was, until Solo: A Star Wars Story decided to add a bit of comedy into the pair's initial on-screen meeting. During the pair's introduction to one another in said prequel, Han growls back at Chewie in Wookiee in an attempt to keep himself from being killed by the monstrous Wookie. Sure, he only admits to knowing "a little" of his native language, but this seemingly harmless comedic moment quickly left fans wondering why Han never humoured his old mate with a few Wookiee one-liners in the years since their first meet.
What an enigma.
