10 Times Star Wars Gave Fans What Wanted (and They Hated It)

1. The New Trilogy

When Disney's new Star Wars trilogy was announced, the fanbase were overjoyed. Because of how disappointing the prequels were, we knew we needed to keep our expectations in check.

However, we were certain this time would be different. Despite the fact George Lucas created the Star Wars universe, it's no secret the franchise suffered from poor acting, bad dialogue, and excessive CGI. With Lucas out of the picture, it seemed like these issues would no longer pose a problem.

After watching the new trilogy, it was obvious the filmmakers didn't understand the saga the way Lucas did. The esteemed filmmaker may have had his flaws, but he had one thing Disney didn't have while overseeing his franchise - a plan. Although the new films had stellar performances and focused on practical effects, none of that mattered since they focused more on fan-service rather than having a cohesive plot.

Considering The Force Awakens was basically a remake of A New Hope, it was obvious from the get-go the new trilogy would rely on nostalgia above all else.

In a way, the best example of this was the decision to reincorporate Emperor Palpatine into Episode IX. Since The Emperor clearly died in Return of the Jedi, his revival didn't make sense. The powers-that-be knew this and yet, put him in the film anyway, purely because he's a recognised character. This means the filmmakers chose a character that viewers recognise over story or logic.

For many, the new trilogy wasn't just disappointing - it broke our hearts. Because of how badly Disney mishandled the series, Star Wars no longer has the same grip on the fanbase it once had.
