10 Times Studios LOCKED AWAY Deleted Movie Scenes From Directors
6. Fantastic Four
It's no secret that production of 2015's Fantastic Four was an absolute disaster, though it's probably fair to say that the blame can be levelled against at least two parties.
Director Josh Trank has claimed that his original cut of the superhero reboot ran in at around 140 minutes, and that Fox forced him to cut 40-or-so minutes of scenes, while also ordering re-shoots to bridge the gap (hence that terrible Kate Mara wig).
But shortly before the film's release, word spread that Trank was a volatile, possibly drug-addicted mess on set, supposedly buckling under the pressure of handling a mammoth blockbuster production.
Either way, the end result was the same - Trank's original vision, said to be far more of a Cronenberg-style horror movie, was re-shaped into a more conventional superhero flick with a svelte 100-minute runtime.
On the eve of the film's release, Trank famously tweeted that he had a "fantastic" version of the movie a year prior, but that fans would "probably never see it," quite clearly implying that Fox had taken the movie away from him and locked all of the cut content away.
Given the rancid critical and commercial reception to the film, not to mention Trank's clearly acrimonious fallout with Fox, there's about zero chance that the much-discussed "Trank Cut" of Fantastic Four ever sees the light of day.
While a few glimpses of cut material did end up on the film's home video release - including a quick look at the Fantasti-Car - there's absolutely no incentive for Fox to release the Trank Cut, especially now they're owned by Disney.
