10 Times Studios LOCKED AWAY Deleted Movie Scenes From Directors

It was easy to be excited about Ben Affleck's 2016 period crime thriller Live by Night, given that he was three-for-three as a director at this point, and everything we'd seen of the movie suggested another home run.

Affleck shot the movie as a three-hour prestige drama with Oscars on its mind, only for a twitchy Warner Bros. to decide that almost an hour needed to be cut from the film.

As a result, Live by Night hit cinemas with a heavily truncated 129-minute runtime, leading to entire characters being omitted - including Scott Eastwood as Ben Affleck's brother - as well as crucial character development.

It's also been speculated that the film's tepid voiceover narration was added in post-production in order to paper over the narrative cracks created by removing so many scenes.

Depressingly, the final film was panned by most critics and sank like a stone at the box office, and as a result, it's unlikely Warner Bros. will ever let Affleck return to the editing room to deliver his full vision.

The home video release included around 15 minutes of deleted scenes, but that's all we're likely to get.
