10 Times Studios LOCKED AWAY Deleted Movie Scenes From Directors
2. Justice League
No movie in recent years has suffered through a more strained production than Justice League, the $300 million superhero bust which ended up being a far cry from the original movie envisioned by director Zack Snyder.
It's no secret of course that Snyder recused himself from re-shoots following a family tragedy, at which point Joss Whedon stepped in and steered the tone closer to that of an MCU movie, while Warner Bros. mandated a runtime of no more than two hours.
Though Snyder himself had made an effort to lighten Justice League's tone following the response to Batman v Superman, his initial vision of Justice League was markedly different from what we ended up with.
Clocking in at 214 minutes, the so-called "Snyder Cut" is almost 75 minutes longer than what was released in cinemas, with numerous subplots that were cut from the final movie, namely extended character development for The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
The cut also introduced villain Darkseid (Ray Porter), Aquaman's mentor Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe), The Flash's love interest Iris West (Kiersey Clemons), Martian Manhunter (Harry Lennix), and many more.
The cut is said to be about 90% complete, and Snyder has shown off extensive behind-the-scenes images demonstrating just how many scenes were cut from the final film.
Sadly, Warner Bros. reportedly has no plans to release the Snyder Cut, which would require up to $40 million of VFX and editing work to complete.
Considering Justice League's disappointing box office performance and the sure stink Snyder's name now brings with it, it's understandable, even if the Snyder Cut is undeniably one of Hollywood's greatest recent cinematic curiosities.
