10 Times The MCU Broke Its Own Rules
8. Cap Summons Lightning Out Of Nowhere - Avengers: Endgame
As incredible as it was to see Captain America (Chris Evans) finally wield Thor's trusty hammer Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame, it didn't take fans long to point out an internal inconsistency in the logic of how Cap was able to harness Thor's lightning powers.
After all, Thor: Ragnarok literally had Odin (Anthony Hopkins) tell Thor, "That hammer was to help you control your power, to focus it. It was never your source of strength," and we subsequently see Thor unleash a devastating lightning attack without his iconic weapon at the end of the movie.
This would seemingly suggest that Cap wouldn't be able to conjure lightning simply by having Mjolnir in his hand, and yet, he does. Endgame's co-writer Christopher Markus even accepted this as an inconsistency, but quite rightly ascertained that it was "too awesome not to do it."
But on the other hand, if we take Odin at his original word in the first Thor movie - where he says, "Whosoever holds of this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor" - then it seems that anyone worthy enough to lift Mjolnor would also be able to harness Thor's powers, lightning and all, right? Maybe?
Either way, there's not much concrete logic to be found here.
