10 Times The MCU Broke Its Own Rules
7. Drax's Selective Literalism - Guardians Of The Galaxy
Drax (Dave Bautista) was the unexpected MVP of Guardians of the Galaxy, stealing the show with his riotously absurd one-liners and hyper-literal approach to interacting with others.
Except, despite the film making quite an effort convey just how damn literal-minded the guy is, there's one moment in the first Guardians which seems to betray this completely, at the expense of a potentially hilarious gag no less.
In the third act, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) gives a rousing speech where he tells his fellow Guardians that life has given them a chance to "give a s**t," which Drax seems oddly un-fazed by, instead simply telling Peter that he will gladly fight alongside him.
Given Drax's literal mindset, why isn't he considering the practicalities of actually, well, "giving a s**t"? Talk about a squandered joke right there.
But at least this is a rule played purely for comedy, and so it does nothing to upset the movie's dramatic through-line.
